About the Event
Jazz Con Alma and Holly Pyle honor female composers like Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Marian McPartland, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Jessica Williams, Esperanza Spalding, and Blossom Dearie, celebrating songs that have become part of our heritage and culture.
Beth Lederman is well known for her sophisticated jazz and rhythmic Brazilian and Latin-jazz piano styles, not only in the Phoenix area, but also throughout the western United States, from the Canadian border down to Mexico. She has been playing professionally for more than 20 years, leading her bands Jazz Con Alma and Nova Mundo. Lederman’s music is melodic, fun, fluid, passionate, innovative, heartfelt, eclectic, honest, artistic, humorous, and spontaneous.
Holly Pyle cut her teeth as an impressive straight-ahead jazz singer. Over time, Pyle integrated a handful of other genres and is now best known as the vocal-looping frontwoman of progressive soul outfit House of Stairs. Voted best vocalist of 2019 by Phoenix New Times, and now a resident of California, Pyle returns for this special performance celebrating female composers.
