About the Event

Described by All About Jazz as “both relaxed and expressive,” brothers Chris (bass, trombone) and Dan Brubeck (drums), along with Mike DeMicco (guitar) and Chuck Lamb (piano) celebrate the Brubecks’ legendary father through a program titled Dave Brubeck’s Centennial Celebration. It includes favorites like “Take Five,” “Unsquare Dance,” and “Blue Rondo a la Turk.” Through stories told by his sons and music performed by the quartet, the multimedia show invites audiences to travel along the timeline of Dave Brubeck’s extraordinary life and career.

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet performs at concert series, colleges, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe in their unique style of “straight-ahead” jazz that reveals their inherent ability to explore odd time signatures while naturally integrating the influences of funk, blues, and world music. The group’s creativity, technique, and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music, which reflects their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture, and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically their whole lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966—nearly a half century ago. They’ve subsequently played a variety of styles in several different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. With Dan and Chris as the foundation, guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist ChuckLamb complete this dynamic quartet.
