About the Event

Known for her warm and intimate live shows, filled with rich storytelling, Mary Chapin Carpenter brings her poetic song-stories and toe-tapping hits back to Scottsdale alongside singer-songwriter Brandy Clark. “Passionate Kisses,” “I Feel Lucky,” “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her,” “Shut Up and Kiss Me”—a concert by Carpenter is filled with plenty of classic 1990s hits and emotionally resonant new material. Meanwhile, Clark, as a songwriter first and foremost (in addition to her own “Dear Insecurity,” she’s the writer behind Kacey Musgraves’s “Follow Your Arrow” and Brandi Carlile and Alicia Keys’s duet “A Beautiful Noise”) delivers heartfelt performances, filled with deep emotional connections and observations on life and love.

“I’ve been a fan of Brandy Clark’s from her very first record.” — Mary Chapin Carpenter

“Mary Chapin Carpenter’s artistry has been such an influence on me musically.” — Brandy Clark

Mary Chapin Carpenter

One of music’s “most reliable and empathetic songwriters” (Pitchfork), Mary Chapin Carpenter has sold more than 16 million records over the course of her renowned career. She has won five Grammys® (with eighteen nominations), two CMA Awards, and two ACM Awards. Carpenter is one of only fifteen female members of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her recent podcast, Hope is a Muscle, finds Carpenter in conversation with people from all walks of life. Earlier this year, Carpenter released the album Looking for the Thread, a collaborative recording with Scottish singer-songwriters Karine Polwart and Julie Fowlis. Of the album, The Arts Desk wrote, “It’s only January but this is an album of the year.”

Brandy Clark

A Grammy, CMA, and Americana Award winner, Brandy Clark is one of her generation’s most esteemed songwriters and musicians. Clark won Best Americana Performance at the 66th Grammy Awards and Song of the Year at the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards for Dear Insecurity,” found on her self-titled album. Released to overwhelming praise, Forbes calls the record an Americana Masterpiece while Billboard declares, Clark continues to convey her inexorable talents as both a song-crafter and vocal interpreter. Alongside longtime collaborator Shane McAnally, Clark composed the music for the hit musical Shucked, which won Outstanding Music at the 67th Drama Desk Awards and was nominated for Best Original Score at the 76th Tony Awards.
