About the Event
The theme of the 2024–25 season of the Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra is “Celebrations!”
Join Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra for Powerful Women, celebrating Women’s History Month and featuring music by, and about, fascinating women. The story of Scheherazade was inspired by the tales of The Arabian Nights, in which the Sultan vows to take a new wife each night and have her executed the next morning. However, his latest bride, Scheherazade, succeeds in saving herself by engaging the Sultan’s interest in a series of interconnected tales that take 1,001 nights to recount. The story comes alive through Rimsky-Korsakov’s epic tone poem.
Join Maestro Siu for a free pre-concert chat, “Beyond the Baton,” at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 23, to hear the story behind the music.
The Scottsdale Symphonic Orchestra is the resident orchestra of Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, consisting of seventy to ninety professionally trained musicians performing beloved masterworks, new favorites written by diverse composers, and challenging staples of the orchestral repertoire.
